The Philippines stands tall as a powerhouse for legendary strikers in sports like boxing and MMA. From the first Asian boxing world champion, Fransisco “Pancho Villa” Guilledo, to the eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao, the country’s roster of fighters is unparalleled.

In MMA, stand-up warriors from Sanda Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, Karatekas such as Zamboanga siblings Drex and Denise, and even the former UAE Featherweight World Champion turned Bare Knuckle Boxing sensation, Rolando “Dyincredible” Dy, showcase the nation’s strength in this aspect of fighting.

The Philippines truly reigns supreme as the kingdom of striking arts, boasting a legacy of champions and prospects that continues to shine brightly. Despite this, up until recently, there has not been a sizable kickboxing organization for professional kickboxers to hone their craft in a platform to showcase their skills.

Outside of amateur events held by the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas/ Philippine Kickboxing Federation or amateur Muay Thai events held by the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines, the professional scene for such kickboxing-based events has not been consistent as compared to other striking powerhouses in Asia such as Thailand’s Muay Thai scene with Rajadamnern World Series, ONE Lumpinee, and Thai Fight, or Japan and China’s strong kickboxing circuit with the likes of K-1, RISE, and Wu Lin Feng holding events in the regular.

But this lack of a platform for Pinoy strikers to hone their craft has been answered by the introduction of the newest kickboxing promotion in the Philippines called Tunay na Tigas Fight (in English translated to The Real Hard Fight) as come to answer this dilemma in Pinoy combat sports. The product from the minds of the founders Atty. Miguel Consing and matchmaker James Gutierrez who are self-pronounced fans of kickboxing and MMA have created this organization. This is to give a chance to aspiring Filipino strikers to hone their skills in their ring and hopefully create a thriving local kickboxing scene in the Philippines.

Ever since their first two events in 2023, TNT Fight has brought a new standard of excellence to the Pinoy fight scene in such a quick time. From the production quality, professionalism, and hospitality of the management team, the quality of the matchmaking that is such diverse in which veteran fighters and debutants are given a chance to shine in this excellent fight promotion raising the degree of quality that both Filipino and international organizations should take notice of.

This is something I can attest to, since I went to their second event and I was pleased with the excellence of every aspect from the venue, the fight quality, and overall feel felt like it was created by the top kickboxing organizations in the world such K-1, GLORY, RISE, and ONE.

Such notable names I can recall from the event in the fights were featherweight Paolo “Maging King” Cruz and super-welterweight Lucian “Hiraya” Choy two stalwarts from the Dyincredible Fighting and Fitness Center who both won their respective bouts, ONE Warrior Series and rising Filipino bantamweight John Ornido’s crushing power and usage of leg kicks from the clinch to attain a finish full of swagger, the action-packed co-main featherweight bout between T-Rex MMA’s Ancaeto “Tenacity” Lauron who edged out a decision over Tiger Muay Thai Philippines and Muay Thai veteran Richard “The Sniper” Lachica and between the main event bout between bantamweight stalwarts of the local scene Kimbert “The Hunter” Alintozon of the AlphaOne camp against Manuel “The Black Panther” Delos Reyes of The Lab fight camp resulted in a draw but was action packed from the start to finish.

Ever the innovator, TNT Fight also has a podcast named TNT Fightcast in which Atty. Miguel Consing and matchmaker James Gutierrez will be able to talk about fight analysis, stories in the hurt business, the fighters, and even notable figureheads in the Pinoy fight scene are set to make an appearance soon. It was truly a night to never forget and was a sneak peek of what the Filipino combat scene can offer to the world, and ride the coattails of the world of kickboxing dominated by promotions from Japan, The Netherlands, China, and Thailand.

With kickboxing facing a potential global resurgence with K-1 reintroducing a Global expansion with a new set of partnerships forged in the card and the return of the K-1 MAX Final 16 on March 20 and Qualifying rounds for the iconic K-1 WGP, with GLORY and RISE forging a strong relationship to unify rankings, rulesets, events and in fighter exchanges with GLORY hosting Tournaments for the 77kg to Heavyweight classes and RISE holding a series of RISE x K-1 bouts and a potential tournament finale being held in December, and an overall uptick of kickboxing activity and cooperation around the world is an enticing sign.

Not only is the future of kickboxing a bright one but also for new challengers from countries not yet known on the world stage for the sport are coming to ride the wave the of striking sports.
