After a hard-fought battle, former K-1 champion Yuki Yoza emerged victorious over the former ONE kickboxing champion Petchanong. As the two would engage in a kicking contest in the first round, Yoza unleashed his calf kicks and Petchtanong whipped his middle kicks in a brutal first round, allowing Yoza to secure the win.
It wasn’t until the second round that the drama would escalate, as Yuki Yoza would drop the Thai kickboxer with a brutal overhand and put a beating on him for the remainder of the round. In the third round, Petchanong would mount an offense on the K-1 champion, who seemed to be badly tiring as he fell over in clinch exchanges and off of some kicks.
However, Petchtanong would sabotage the very round he was winning with excessive clinching, which would result in him being given a yellow card. This was the nail in the coffin for him having any chance of winning the bout, as Yuki Yoza was declared the winner.
The idea of Yoza facing the former two-sport champion, Superlek, was floated during the post-fight interview. Still, Yuki Yoza was adamant in his desire to face current bantamweight kickboxing champion Johnathan Haggerty. With the champion agreeing on social media.
Yuki Yoza now has a claim to the bantamweight throne.
Yuki Yoza and Jonathan Haggerty have both proven themselves against more decorated kickboxers; Yoza against Petchanong and Haggerty against former K-1 champion Wei Rui. Now, the two will face off at ONE 173 on what will likely be a stacked card, with this matchup being one of the best fights in kickboxing this year.
